The misinformation distributed about exotic animals never ceases to amaze me. I've seen news articles about things such as an escaped "African Barking Cat" (there is no such species), and servals being misidentified in the news as ocelots. I've started this page to log some of the worst of these bits of stupidity and point out the flaws. Why? I just can't take the obsolescence of reality any longer!
Below is my current "favorite:"
"After watching coverage of the tiger that was killed in Southern
California yesterday, it looks like there's another problem in
addition to our side being outspent. They had a "tiger behavioral
expert" on TV. He said with a straight face that if Fish & Game had
shot the tiger with a tranquilizer dart instead, this would have
produced an adrenaline rush that would have probably caused the tiger
to run to a nearby school and eat a child before the tranquilizer
could take effect. This was the channel 9 news at 10PM the night the tiger was killed. Turns out the tiger was declawed and never threatened any of the people tracking it."
I'm sorry, but you don't have to know anything about exotic cats to realize there's something terribly, terribly wrong with that statement!
