I love receiving email from vistors; it lets me know that all the hours of work I've devoted to this site were worthwhile.

"I just wanted to tell you that this is the most informative website about servals. I have looked at over a hundred, and you care truly for the animal. I wish your information was on every site."

"I don't see why anyone (i.e., the government) would want to take that away from you. You have as much right to care for those animals as I do my own cat or dog."

"Thanks again for reawakening a childhood dream!"

"I think your view on declawing is absolutely accurate, people who can't care for a clawed cat shouldn't have a cat at all."

"Reading your page on why they should not be banned really convinced me - and I especially liked the opening about the Dihydrogen monoxide - I thought that was a GREAT point and really gets the reader to open their mind."

I love receiving email from vistors; it lets me know that all the hours of work I've devoted to this site were worthwhile. Some people have written to tell me that this information has allowed them to fulfil a lifetime dream of living with an exotic feline. And while I totally support the legal right of ordinary people to own these wonderful cats, it is rewarding to hear from responsible people who have made an educated decision NOT to get an exotic cat after reading the site. If I can save even one cat from being ditched by an unprepared owner, the effort has been worth it. Here is a small sample of email I've received.

"Hi - I found your site just randomly surfing one night. I had never heard of a serval before, but wanted to drop you a note to say how much I thoroughly enjoyed your site! It's clear that you love your cat very very much, and the information in your site is very well thought-out and presented. I used to have a couple of rambunctious Bengals who proved to be too active for me! So, owning a serval definitely isn't right for me - at least at this time in my life - but I am very intrigued by them now. I never knew much about owning an exotic animal, just never gave it much thought except "oh, probably it's not a good idea". Reading your page on why they should not be banned really convinced me - and I especially liked the opening about the Dihydrogen monoxide - I thought that was a GREAT point and really gets the reader to open their mind. People seem to forget to look at all sides of a situation before passing judgement. I read about 50% of your site, and I really learned a lot. I hope one day I'll have the opportunity to meet a serval as they seem to be very intriguing cats. Well, I'll let you get back to your life. I just wanted to say hi and let you know what a great job you did on your site - truly a great resource for a serval owner or someone thinking about it." J.D.

"I just wanted to share with you that I thought what you are doing for these animals is wonderful. Some people don't understand, and even criticize exotic animal lovers thinking that they are uncaring and bad people; when in fact it always seems to be just the opposite. After reading what you do for these animals, and how you care for them as if they were you own flesh and blood, I don't see why anyone (i.e., the government) would want to take that away from you. You have as much right to care for those animals as I do my own cat or dog. Well I just wanted to share that with you, and let you know that I think you are doing a great job for a great cause. Good luck with everything, I hope that everything is taken care of with that bill." E.R.

"I just have to say, your site, Jessi, is what made me feel "ok" about owning an exotic cat and was the first one I came across over a year ago, when I first started looking into owning a Serval. It is wonderful!!! It is very heartfelt when I say "Thank You!" I know how much work, time and effort it takes to keep a website fresh and interesting." I.S. www.iStormCats.com

"Hello. There was a article in the times union today about you and it was very inspiring. As a little kid it was always my dream to own a snow leopard. I gave up that dream thinking that it would be an extremely expensive thing, but reading your article gave me hope. Looking at the website and the servals I realize that they are probably a more attainable goal. I love cats, their independence and their individual personality, the companionship that they give. They are definately gifts from the gods. they become not only your child but also the closest friend you could ever imagine. I would love if it was a feasible dream to be able to within the next few years be able to own a exotic cat. Thanks again for reawakening a childhood dream! Sincerly, A.C."

"I loved your Serval site and have always dreamed of keeping a big cat myself. However your honest and open evaluation has shown that it is not a realistic consideration for me and I will have to content myself looking at pictures of your cats instead.

"I have kept domestic cats and would never have dreamed of having them declawed. I think your view on declawing is absolutely accurate, people who can't care for a clawed cat shouldn't have a cat at all." A.C. Taipei, Taiwan

"I just went to your site and am very impressed! Eye catching, informative, easy to maneuver and filled with common sense information. Very well done! Great work, so nice to see intellegent, sensible information for people to access." C.T. Wilsonville, OR

"Wonderful wonderful wonderful! I'm far from ready for an exotic feline right now ( I'm still in school -- planning on medical school, and don't feel I have the time to devote to such a majestic being. ) After reading all the information provided on your site, I have been inspired to think of things I would have never previously considered (the escaping from window screens, difficulty in training). Your site has been just an absolute blessing. Thank you again!!!!" B.

"I am a veterinarian wresting with the ethics of declawing a serval for a client who seems to be highly motivated and who seems to be a dedicated exotic cat owner. Yours is the best website I have seen that mentions the difficulties of serval ownership. Of course, the pleasures are taken for granted since they are such magnificent animals." D.H.

"I just wanted to tell you that this is the most informative website about servals. I have looked at over a hundred, and you care truly for the animal. I wish your information was on every site, many people likely don't realize the spraying and litter training concerns which I suspect cause many misplaced servals. Thank you for your web site as this is a big decision to make getting a serval, and I almost made a bad decision getting one which would have been sad for the serval. Thanks, K.S."

"You're right about the comparison between Servals and other pets. How many pit bulls have killed children (and some adults)? I've never heard of a fatal Serval attack. I have heard of rare attacks by big cats. In NC last year, an elderly couple was killed by a ram! I feel that if you know what you're doing, and treat the animal right, an injury causing incident is improbable. Sincerely, C.R.", Charlotte

"I am in total awe, and somewhat teary eyed, from reading each and every page of your website! Bravo to you!! Every breeder should try to make your site a focal point for every potential owner to read and understand. You have such a wealth of information on your site! Don't you dare change a thing!!! Excellent site!!!! All newbies, or potential new owners, please read Jessi's site. I can not express that enough. IF you want to learn, her site is the most informative I have seen on the net. She has no other agenda, other than teaching the public about our precious felines. She does this on her own, and out of her own pocket." S.C.

Dear Jessie,

I have been to your website many times; but, the first time was special. I had been longing for a cougar, and found I could share my dream with no one without being ridiculed. Then I came across your website and read the following:

"What cat lover hasn't looked into the eyes of a wild cat at a zoo or in a photograph and secretly wondered how different these creatures really are at heart from our domestic companions? Who hasn't fantasized about reaching out and petting one, and hearing it purr in response? For some people, that dream is a reality. Living with a tame wild cat is an amazing experience which verifies what many have felt deep down; these animals can be every bit as loving and affectionate as a domestic house cat."

Thank you, Jessie. You eloquently stated what I had been feeling for years. I mustered the courage, finally, to take a stand against the criticism from family and "friends" and attempted to get my big cat. As things turned out, owning a cougar in Michigan is no easy thing -- USDA licenses, and all. Plus I realize now, that more experience and knowledge than I currently have would be advised. So, I opted for the biggest, sweetest "small" cat I could find: the Siberian lynx.

He will get all of the love and responsible ownership I can give him. Yes, "deep down" I have always KNOWN,somehow, that a 'wild' feline would be a wonderful, fascinating companion. I'd like to thank you, personally, for capturing the essence of my lifelong 'fantasy.' Sincerely, D.H.

I finally had the time to go over your site, and all I can say is WOW! I have been directing people who are interested in learning or obtaining an exotic feline to your site, and a couple of them have come back to me, stating that your site is "awsome", and "so much information", that I had to take another look! Of all the websites that are out there on the net, yours is the only one that I know of, that has so much helpful information in teaching the public about our exotic felines. Your site has an abundance of so much information! I just wanted to say to you, thank you so much for all the hard work you are doing. Your site is definitely a learning tool!!!!!! S.C.

"GREAT WEBSITE!! You've put together a REALLY fine, informative site. Recently I'd been searching for serval and savannah information, and your site is absolutely fantastic! It appears that nondomestic felines and their hybrids are mostly illeagal in Nebraska (for individuals), so I don't have immediate use for the info you're providing on your site. But I'm thinking maybe I'll move someplace that's more serval-friendly when I get a house. (Right now I'm owned by 4 domestic cats and volunteer at the Nebraska Humane Society in Omaha each week.)

I commend you for taking the time, effort, and expense to offer such a uniquely informative site." G.L.

I just wanted to congratulate you on a website that stresses responsible animal-ownership. As a reptile owner I encounter similar issues and hope that you are able to be successful in your endeavors. T.E.

Thank you for such an amazing resource - Helen

Thanks so much for you awesome, informative website. It's been a big factor in helping me make an educated decision to own a serval. M.L.

Banning Exotic Cats Doesn't Help Them, it Kills Them!
